The Project Plan is a spreadsheet that can be downloaded to your computer or edited in your own Google account and features:
Easy to follow plan of work based on the (industry standard) RIBA Plan of work.
The ability to plan your programme by adjusting the start date and duration of activities which will automatically update all linked actions.
Budget planning with editable rates, hours and planning fees to quickly calculate your projected costs.
The spreadsheet is backed-up with full, detailed guidance notes which take you through each step of the process. The notes are organised to follow the same RIBA work stages as the project plan for easy navigation. This also means when discussing work with professionals you can use the work stages as reference points.
As a bonus, you get access to our design guide which lets you choose your property type and extension or loft design. This will then give you information about the planning requirements so that you know what the rules are and what applications will be required. You can also select further features such as roof types, windows, doors and rooflights to build an idea of what your extension could be like.
This information can help in your initial analysis of the site, development of the brief and understanding what applications are needed which will in turn effect your programme and budget.
Whilst the Project Plan puts you in control of the process, there are still many activites which will need the input of a suitably qualified professional.
With the XPlans system you are not alone - you can get in touch at any point to get help with as much of the work as you want. This could include:
Checking / commenting on your design ideas
Preparing drawings
Submitting applications
Liaising with other consultants
As an added bonus, we will offer our services at a discount of 10% to those using the XPlans system.
The system could save you as much as £1560 in professional fees. This figure has been derived from the spreadsheet by calculating the saving on professional fees if you undertake all of the management activities which we think you can realistically tackle. The true saving will of course vary between projects but you can calculate this on your spreadsheet by toggling between 'You' and 'Consultant' in the 'Work By' column. The Consultant rate defaults to £95/hour - the rate we currently charge.
You can take control of your own project by understanding the process, monitoring costs, checking timescales and planning ahead. Whether you decide to manage some or all of the process yourself, you will be armed with a clear framework to work to and a detailed understanding of the process, enabling you to keep on top of the detail and avoid mistakes or omissions.
Avoid delays by planning ahead and monitoring progress against the timescales generated in the plan.
Get help as and (only) when you need it, so you don't get locked into lengthy contracts but know you can call on us to assist at any point in the process. This is done by submitting a simple 'get help' form which also follows the format of the plan.
